Happy 65th Birthday to the Rock Star 'Freddie Mercury'' By Google Doodle

Apparently the U.S. will have to wait until Tuesday to sample Google's homepage Google Doodle tribute to musician Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 65th birthday.

Until then, you can head over to google.co.uk. Clicking on the "play" icon launches a YouTube video with an animated romp to the tune of Mercury-led rock band Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." A second click brings you to Google search results for Mercury from Wikipedia and more. Mercury died in 1991 of bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS.
NBC Bay Area has the lowdown on the energetic effort, which it says is Google's second longest doodle ever (the Charlie Chaplain tribute is the longest).
Google employee Jennifer Hom tells NBC that she and other illustrators took three months to pull it together. "My obsession with Freddie Mercury affected everyone else around me," she told NBC.
The Mercury tribute rolled out worldwide in conjunction with Mercury's birthday, but the U.S. will wait to get the doodle on the homepage Tuesday, "because of a conflict with Labor Day," NBC reports.
